StringsOfThePuppetmaster

Who pulls the strings which control us all?

With this piece I complete my epic quest to earn the title of Iron Painter. When I began this quest just over three months ago I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I must say that participating in Iron Painter 2015 was one of the best hobby related decisions I have ever made; I ended up painting pieces which I would have never been inspired to paint without this competition and used it to challenge myself as a miniatures painter. The end result is five finished pieces which are some of the best work I have ever done. The next time Iron Painter comes around I will most certainly throw my hat in the ring again, but I could definitely use a little rest first…

The clock is ticking away and the due date is fast approaching for entries in the final round of the Iron Painter 2015 competition. It’s very nearly time for my space oddity to shoot to the stars!

Over the last few days I have been able to do a lot of work on my entry for the final round of Iron Painter 2015. I’ve even tried out some new techniques that ended up working out really well; you could even say I made a good progress, scientific progress… (more…)

It all comes down to this–the final round of the Iron Painter 2015 painting competition; the theme for this round is “Space Oddity.” Somehow I managed to come up with an idea for this theme that I really like within 24 hours of it being posted, but of course I couldn’t actually get started until I got my hands on all of the elements I need for this piece. Turns out that you can get your hands on most anything through Amazon, even hands…

Teddyzilla
Oh no!! It’s Teddyzilla! Run for your lives!!! Oh wait, nevermind, it’s just my entry for Round 4 of Wyrd Miniature’s Iron Painter 2015 competition.

This is my take on the classic Japanese Kaiju film, Malifaux style. This diorama was a lot of fun to build and paint; I hope you all like it! (more…)

I’m having a good deal of fun building my Round 4 entry for the Iron Painter 2015 painting contest. For the diorama I’m working on, I needed to gather some supplies from a local hobby shop I’ve heard a lot about but haven’t previously visited. This shop is a train and modeling shop as opposed to the gaming stores I usually frequent for hobby supplies so I was able to procure all kinds of cool architectural modeling elements to use for this and several other projects. I’m not going to lie, it was pretty much a kid in a candy store scenario here.

The third round of the Iron Painter 2015 competition has come and gone, leaving only a handful still in the competition. The third round was my first round amongst those who have been eliminated and I found it quite freeing to paint what I felt like and not worry about impressing the judges, which was convenient as I was rather tight on time to get my entry finished; were I still in the competition I would have worked myself to the bone to build up a more impressive diorama style piece, but time was against me and ultimately it was just a battle to put together something at all. Despite being eliminate from the competition, I am proud to be part of the small handful of eliminated competitors who still have enough iron in them to keep going; with approximately 200 eliminated painters, only about a dozen of us completed entries to show our metal. I suppose they call it Iron Painter for a reason…  (more…)

SecretBlackMidnightHags

By the pricking of my thumbs,
Something wicked this way comes.
Open, locks,
Whoever knocks!

How now, you secret, black, and midnight hags!
What is’t you do?

A deed without a name.

I am pleased to present you with my entry for Round 3 of Wyrd Miniature’s Iron Painter contest. The theme for this round is “Something Wicked This Way Comes” and I have titled my entry “Secret Black and Midnight Hags.”  (more…)

IPEp12My Iron Painter round three entry is coming along and I refuse to get bogged down by all of the bogs I need to paint. With only a week left until this entry is due, it’s time to buckle down and strap in for a race to the finish! (more…)

Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

It would appear that I have pricked my thumbs as finally something wicked my way comes. That’s right, the theme for Round 3 of the Iron Painter 2015 contest is “Something Wicked This Way Comes” and although I have been eliminated from running for the crown, my quest to be named an Iron Painter is far from over. Due to being on vacation when the theme was announced and then playing catch-up on everything not hobby related as soon as I got back, I didn’t actually get started on this project until last night. But now you as what is’t I do?

A deed without name! (more…)
